Supporting Journalism in Asia

The following activities are scheduled for this year.
  1. Asia Journalists Forum (January 2005 in Bangkok)
    The Mass Communication Organization of Thailand will be commissioned to organize the forum.
    • Participants: A total of twelve young journalists (four from the host country Thailand) with more than three years work experience will be invited to participate in the forum. Priority will be given to journalists from Central Asia, the Middle East, and South Asia. In addition to the young journalists, three people will serve as moderators and four media professionals will give lecturers at the forum.
    • Theme: Media, Democracy and Human Rights


  2. Upgrading the foundation of information dissemination from Asia:
    Yayasan 21 Juni 1994 of Indonesia will play a central role in conducting the following activities.
    • The project will continue operation of the website "AsiaViews", which was created last year. New articles will be posted on the site every other week.
    • The implementing organizations will continue to work closely with the various media organizations that help with the operation of the web site (Tempo of Indonesia, Today of Singapore, Newsbreak of the Philippines, The Nation of Thailand, and Business of Malaysia. The Regional Editing Group (REG) will meet once every quarter.
