Human Resources Development in Myanmar

The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Myanmar Times(Myanmar), Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University(Thailand), Kyung-Hee University(Korea),Malaysian Institute of Economic Reserch(Malaysia) , Civil Service Selection and Training Board(Myanmar)


The following activities are scheduled this year.

  1. Training Workshop for Mid-level Regional Public Officials in Myanmar
    A training workshop on civil service systems in South Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand will be held over four days in May 2004, inviting about sixty mid-level regional public officials.

  2. Fact finding visit for high-ranking officers of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board:
    Six high-ranking officers from the CSSTB will be invited to other Southeast Asian countries (Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea) to observe the civil servant systems in those countries.

  3. "Workshop for Mid-level Officials in the Central Government" in Myanmar.
    With the cooperation of specialists from Thailand, Malaysia, and Korea, a one-week workshop will be held in late November 2004, inviting about 120 mid-level officers from Myanmar's 34 government agencies and independent offices. The themes for the 2004 workshop are 1) the role of local authorities within a federal system and 2) relationship between central and local governments.

  4. Fact-finding tour to South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia. (Mid-February 2005):
    About thirty of the participants in the abovementioned workshop will be selected to go on a fact-finding tour.

  5. Publication of an academic journal on civil servant systems:
    A bi-annual journal will be published in Burmese.

  6. Training of young journalists:
    Five young journalists will be trained with the help of the Myanmar Times.

  7. Commissioned work:
    Work will be commissioned to the Myanmar Times, Myanmar's CSSTB, Kyung Hee University in South Korea, The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research, and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.
