People Exchange Program: Strengthening Partnerships in the Pan-Asia Region

The following activities are scheduled for the first year of the project:

  1. Inviting VIP from Southeast Asian Countries to Japan (3 days in January 2005)

    The project will invite five prominent individuals from Southeast Asian countries to Japan. In light of the many changes that have taken place in Asia following elections in many of the countries, the project will invite politicians, government officials and other prominent individuals from Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and other ASEAN nations to Japan, the project aims to provide a forum these people to discuss regional issues such as Japan-ASEAN relations and the formation of an Asian Community.

    Dr. Mya Than, Visiting Fellow, ISIS, Chulalongkorn University will be asked to serve as adviser to the program.

  2. Inviting Indian VIP to Japan (3 days in December 2004):

    The project will invite five VIP from India to Japan with the aim of strengthening relations between the two countries as well as collecting information about various needs in India so that this information can be used as reference when formulating future projects for the fund. Dr. Rajiv Kumar, who is an adviser for the Asian Community project, will help with the selection process. The visitors from India will visit government agencies, think-tanks, diet members and other prominent individuals with the aim of promoting mutual understanding between India and Japan.

  3. Middle East/Japanese Media (3 days in October 2004)

    The project will send three Japanese media representatives (editorial writers from the Asahi Shimbun and Nihon Keizai Shimbun) to the international conference Domestic demand for media in the Gulf States and new trends related to foreign challenges to be held in Dubai in October this year, with the aim of strengthening ties between members of the media in Japan and Muslim countries.
