Strengthening Parliamentarian Dialogue in Cambodia

5.400,000 yen[Grant Project]
Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace(Cambodia)

The following activities will be undertaken this year:

  1. Fact-finding tour and seminar in Japan (September 2004):
Seven parliamentarians from the three main Cambodian political parties will visit Japan for six days and meet with Japanese parliamentarians, professionals and members of relevant organizations. Participants will engage in discussions about the parliamentary cabinet system, the election system (election districts and election campaigns) and so on. The parliamentarians visiting Japan will also hold a seminar to share information about the current situation in Cambodia.

  2. Follow up workshop (October 2004):
A workshop will be held on the parliamentarians' return to Cambodia. By providing the parliamentarians with a forum to announce the results of their visit to Japan, the project aims to promote mutual understanding among the participants, as well as publicize the fruits of the project in Cambodia. The papers announced at the workshop will be edited by CICP staff and used to compile a report on the project.

  3. Compilations of draft workshop papers (November 2004):
The parliamentarians that visited Japan will compile reports on their experiences after returning to Cambodia. CICP staff will then compile the papers into a policy proposal.

(Second year of a 3-year project)
