ASEAN Young Politicians Retreat Workshop
4,200,000 yen[Grant Project]
Centre for Strategic and International Studies(Indonesia)
Japan reconfirmed its stance to prioritize its relationship with ASEAN at the ASEAN Summit held from December 11 to 12, 2004 by proposing a four point plan. Taking into consideration these new developments in Japan-ASEAN relations, it was decided that it would be more appropriate to focus on the theme "United Community" outlined in the Tokyo Declaration, rather than "collective issues in ethnic conflict and domestic stability" as initially planned. The Centre for Strategic and International Studies and other project participants share the desire to strengthen their ties to Japan given the rising need for both Japan and ASEAN to strengthen relations with each other. Taking into account the needs of ASEAN, and the necessity of further deepening Japan-ASEAN relations, a retreat workshop will be organized as follows.
Date: Four days in mid-October 2004 (Tentative)
Venue: Jakarta
Theme:Toward the creation of a "Japan-ASEAN Community"(Tentative)
