Genron NPO: Encouragement of Intellectual Debate and its Dissemination to the International Community

The following activities will be conducted in this second year of the project.
- Meeting on Economic Strategy/Asian Strategy
- Experts will discuss the year's theme "What should Japan do in Asia?".
- Forum: The Forum will be divided into the two working groups, and a total of 16 sessions (8 for each group) will be held with Dentsu Advisor Mr. Fukagawa serving as the chairperson. Four of the sixteen sessions will be open to the public.
- First Working Group (Diplomacy/Security Strategy toward Asia):
The group will discuss topics such as diplomacy toward the US, security measures including the issue of collective security/defense, immigrants from Asia, and security issues in Japan.
- Second Working Group(Economic Strategy Toward Asia):
The group will discuss topics such as the international monetary system, FTA strategy, and the division of industries in Asia, the Japanese economy and shift in labor power, and refugee issues.
- Symposium: To be held in November 2003 on the theme "Japanese measures for working toward an Asian strategy". (Tentative)
- Meeting for reforming the public sector
- Annual Theme: Regional autonomy and development of NPO's: Major factors in Japan's new challenge.
- Forum: The two main themes to be discussed at the symposium are "Challenges in various fields and the possibilities of NPO's" and "Regional autonomy and NPO promotion measures". Mr. Kitagawa, governor of Mie prefecture, will serve as chairman for the forums, which will be held four times.
- Symposium: to be held in February 2004 on the theme "Provinces/Regions and NPO's will give birth to a new Japan". (Tentative title)
