"Get Across the Voices of Asia" Program/Phase II

- Activities of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation
As in the first phase of the project, SPF will utilize the best method, ranging from conferences, seminars, the Internet, films, publications to translations, in order to disseminate intellectual information related to Asia to the rest of the world in a timely manner.
- The SPF will also commission SPF-USA and the Inter Press Service Asia to carry out the following activities.
- Production and broadcasting of television programs: In phase 1, the project interviewed the leaders of the ASEAN nations and made a television program out of it. In this phase, the project will expand its target to include other Asian nations, and produce an interview program of leader's of three (tentative) nations. This program will be disseminated to the world through the medium of Internet and cable television.
- SPF-USA will invite lecturers to speak at the Asian Voices seminars that they organize in Washington DC. About ten seminars will be held from June 2003 to February 2004 on a variety of current issues. SPF-USA will select the topics for the seminars by periodically consulting with project advisor Dr. G. John Ikenberry of Georgetown University. SPF will delegate the tasks related to inviting lecturers to the seminars to SPF-USA, but will assist in the selection of the lecturers. The tentative topics for the seminar are "Security in the ASEAN Region", "Indonesia: Democracy and Chaos", "Vietnam's WTO membership and US-relations", "Terrorism and Crisis Management in Asia", "The Korean Peninsular Situation: Can trustful relations be established?", and others.
- Disseminating the Fruits of the Project via the Internet
The proceedings of the Voices of Asia Seminar will be made available on the Inter Press Service Website' a global news website.
