The Sasakawa Peace Foundation
A research committee will be established in Japan, to carry out surveys and research on ICT policy in the Pacific island nations and the assistance policy and activities of the relevant institutions. The committee will come up with its own policy of support for the region.
- Workshop of digital opportunity in the Pacific Island nations: To be held 3 times a year. Personnel involved in formulating communications policy in the Pacific Island nations will be invited to speak at two of the workshops.
- Date/place: May, September, January 2004, in Tokyo
- Participants: 50 per workshop
- Committee: 8 members: Chair−The Sasakawa Pacific Island Nations Fund/Steering Chair Dr. Akio Watanabe, Committee members−PECC Japan Committee/Professor Saga.
- Cooperating Organizations:Pacific Islands Forum: PIF, JICA, Hawaii East-West Center, Center for Asia-Pacific Island Studies
- Workshop/Seminar: Two ICT seminars are to be held on the theme "The Digital Divide in the Pacific Island nations"
- Date and place: April in Fiji, January 2004 in Okinawa
- Participants: 50(Fiji), 50(Okinawa)
- Co-hosting organizations: Pacific Islands Forum, East-West Center (Hawaii), Center for Asia-Pacific Island Studies etc.
- Attending an International Symposium:
Two people (in the field of Asia Pacific Island Studies) will attend the World Information Summit in Geneve (September 2003)
- Final Report: A final report on ICT policy in the Pacific Island nations will be drafted.
