  1. Coconuts College Public Lecture (held annually during the project period from FY 2000 to 2004)

    Date: Three days in June
    Place: Okinawa, Yaeyama Islands (Hateruma Island)
    Lecturer: Nainoa Thompson (Representative of the Polynesian Voyaging Society)
    Participants: Students from Yaeyama High School and Yaeyama Norin High School, Yaeyama Citizen's College Planning Committee, Citizen's College (Approximately 1000 participants)
    Content: Based on the past success with the Coconuts College Extension Course, the Citizen's College secretariat will offer a course on "The Pacific Islands" (Tentative theme), as part of the Ishigaki Citizen's college (President Mr. Rokusuke Ei) established in 2001.

  2. Visit to Hawaii: High school students from the Yaeyama Islands will visit Kauai Island to strengthen ties between Ishigaki Prefecture - where the Coconut College public lecture is being held - and the Pacific Island Nations. The students will home-stay, visit the local high school, and meet with a group of Okinawans living in Hawaii. After returning home, the participants will write a report and submit it to the local media.
    Date of visit: One week in September
    Destination: Kauai Island, Honolulu
    Delegates: Two high school students from Yaeyama Island, and the Ishigaki citizen's college planning committee

  3. Establishing a Coconuts College Virtual Class: A website will be created in order to disseminate information about the Pacific Island Nations. A new course "Canoes of the Pacific Ocean" will be established, and an interactive correspondence course will be administered.

  4. Occasional seminars will be held in cooperation with various NGO's and other organizations.
