Exchange Media Personnel among the Pacific Island Region and Japan

5,400,000 yen[Self-Operated/Commissioned Project]
The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Pacific Islands News Association (PINA/Fiji)
Now in its fourth year, the project will provide coverage of the island summit and send Okinawan journalists to Papua New Guinea. The project will also invite a senior-level reporter to Japan for a long-term visit.
These activities will be carried out in cooperation with the Yaeyama Press Club, Miyako Press Club and the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA).
- Invitation Program
- Covering the Island Summit (Over one week in May)
The Pacific Islands News Association will select ten journalists to come to Japan and cover the Island Summit in Tokyo and Okinawa, as well as hold side events in collaboration with Japanese NGO's.
- Long-term Invitation Program (December, 2 weeks)
The project will invite a senior media personnel from the Pacific Island Nations to be stationed in Japan, and promote his/her understanding of the country.
- Sending Journalists to the Pacific Island Nations (October, one week)
The project will send three media personnel from Okinawa to the Pacific Island Nations. The delegates will visit sites and report on the Island nations with the help of PINA and local personnel. Through these activities, the delegates will strengthen ties with the local media personnel.
- A report will be drafted
