The Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Arrangement Committee of Japan-China Young History researchers Conference
This project aims to assist the two countries breakthrough the wall that separates the two nations over the interpretation of historical issues, by supporting the research, formulation of opinions, and information dissemination activities of young Japanese and Chinese scholars that can reexamine modern history from a new perspective, and by doing so build a network of young Japanese and Chinese Scholars and increase their influence in the formulation of policy and world views. The following activities are planned for this year.
- Regular Research Presentation Meetings (about 10 times a year): Hold monthly research meetings inviting ten Japanese and Chinese researchers.
- Special Roundtable Discussions: Hold 4 workshops inviting guest researchers to offer insight into historical research.
- Symposiums: A symposium will be held in Peking on issues in modern historical research, regarding the acknowledgement of historical events, that arise when examining trends in historical research in Japan and China. At the center of the discussions will be seven young Chinese history scholars, five Japanese scholars, and three Chinese scholars resident in Japan.
- Strengthening links with the mass media: Continuing on from 2002, we will work on improving dialogue with the mass media and information dissemination activities. We will call on members of the mass media to attend the symposium and research presentations, and form stronger links with the mass media in both countries.
- Accepting visiting researchers: We will invite newly selected Chinese researchers to Japan, and engage in joint research with the Japanese researchers, as well as give lectures at universities, thereby strengthening understanding and ties between young history scholars in the two countries.
- Compiling a collection of essays/papers (Japanese and Chinese): A collection of essays/papers comprising primarily those presented at the symposium, will be compiled and used as the base for research in the following years.
