Japan Visit Exchange Program for Town and City Mayors

The project will invite to Japan those responsible for administering the upgrading of urban infrastructure in provincial towns and cities. The visitors will learn about ways of upgrading urban infrastructure, focusing on Japan's experience at balancing the environment and development, and in doing so deepen their understanding of Japan.
  • Implementation; The project will be implemented with the support of the central and regional governments.
  • Participants: Mayors and deputy mayors of provincial towns and secretariat staff (10 participants in all)
  • Preparatory Meeting: In June a preparatory meeting will be held for the participants of the project.
  • Visit to Japan: June (8 days). Participants will visit Tokyo, Aichi, and Osaka.
    1. A workshop will be held in Tokyo, inviting experts to speak about improvement of urban development and the balance with the environment.
    2. Exchange of Opinions: Participants will visit the central and regional government offices such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation, and exchange information and opinions with experts.
    3. Informal gathering: Informal gatherings will be organized in Tokyo and Osaka to promote cultural exchange between Japan and China.
    4. Study Tour; Participants will visit the central and regional government offices, private enterprises and organizations and meet with the relevant personnel.
  • Round up meeting: After returning home, the participants will meet in Peking to discuss the fruits of their visit.
  • Drafting/Distributing reports: Reports will be drafted, and distributed to various government offices.
