Promoting Study Exchanges of Japan-China Security Issues

A symposium will be held in Peking to discuss Northeast Asia security issues, inviting SDF field officers and researchers of security issues, experts on security issues from the People's Liberation Army selected by the China Association for International Friendly Contact (China), and other military personnel. After the symposium, the Japanese participants will take a tour of the facilities and forces of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and visit research institutions specializing in security issues, providing an opportunity for the security experts from the two countries to engage in dialogue, and thus promoting mutual understanding between them. The content of the symposium and exchange activities is as follows.
  • Participants:
    (From China)
    40 participants from the Chinese National Defense Bureau, Staff Corps, Political Division, the National Defense University, and Institute for Military Studies, mid-level officers from the armed, naval and air forces of the People's Liberation Army, as well as 50 observers.
    (From Japan)
    Ten participants from the Defense Agency, Armed/Naval/ Air forces of the SDF, National Institute for Defense Studies, and other research institutions specializing in defense issues.
    Total number of participants: 100
  • Preliminary Research (July): The core members of the Chinese participants and secretariat staff will conduct preliminary research in both Russia and Japan.
  • Preparatory Meeting (August): Prior to the symposium, the Chinese participants will hold a preparatory meeting in Peking.
  • Symposium (Mid-September): A symposium on the theme "Security in the Northeast Asian Region" will be held in Peking, inviting 100 participants.
  • Tours/visits: The Japanese participants will visit military research institutions, the National Defense University, and Armed/Naval/Air Forces of the People's Liberation Army.
  • Round-up meeting and fruits of the symposium. After the Symposium, a round-up meeting will be held in Peking, and based on the results of the meeting, the conference materials and papers will be compiled into a report, and distributed to participants/relevant institutions, as well as the policymaking division.
