The following activities will be conducted in this first year of a 3-year project.
- Organizing the "Asia Journalists Forum" (Late January 2004 in Bangkok)
The Mass Communication Organization of Thailand will be commissioned to organize the forum
A. Participants:
Journalists with more than three-years experience will be invited to the forum. The group will comprise four journalists from the host nation Thailand and twelve journalists from other countries. In selecting participants from outside of Thailand, special priority will be given to journalists from the Central Asia-Caucasus region. Furthermore, four media professionals will participate as lecturers and another three will serve as moderators.
B. Content:
The Mass Communication Organization of Thailand will be responsible for planning/coordination of the forum. The topics will be selected based on presentations/discussions with each country, but the following three items will be raised as possible options. 1) Post-war Iraq situation, 2) Crisis in the Korean Peninsula,or 3) Asia and the international community
- Upgrading the base of information dissemination from Asia
The project will commission Yayasan 21 Juni 1994 in Indonesia to operate the project's website. They will obtain the support of media in various Asian countries, organize a Regional Editing Group (REG) comprising leading journalists and opinion leaders in the region, be responsible for overall logistics; and in line with SPF's aims, establish a medium for disseminating information on Asia to the rest of the world by making available on the website, articles/editorials on various political, economic, and cultural issues, which are not swayed by opinions of Western media. The website will be updated every two weeks.
