Research Capacity Building of Agricultural Economics in Vietnamese Universities

Hanoi Agricultural University (Vietnam)

  1. Holding a domestic workshop (May 2003, Two days in Hanoi)
    A research team will be set up comprising six members from Hanoi Agricultural University, six members from Can Tho University, six members from the Ton Duc Thang University of Agriculture and Forestry, and four members from the Ministry of Finance of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The research team will prepare for the international workshop mentioned below in 2, by clarifying the points at issue for each theme and discussing the content of the conference.

  2. Holding an International Workshop (August 2003, for two days in Hanoi)
    A workshop will be held inviting three researchers from Japan and the Philippines, in addition to the above-mentioned domestic research team "1".
    The tentative topics for this year's workshop include
    1. the Current Situation and Issues regarding the Agricultural Industry in each country,
    2. Rapid Economic Growth and Agriculture (Experiences of Japan and the Philippines),
    3. Comparing Curriculums in Research-oriented Universities (The experiences of Japan and the Philippines, the current situation in Vietnam), and
    4. Agriculture and the Environment.

  3. Conducting International Collaborative Research/Studies (October 2003)
    The research topics will be discussed and decided upon taking into account advice given from foreign researchers at the above-mentioned international workshop "2". As for the target regions of the research and surveys, Hanoi Agricultural University will be in charge of the Red River Delta, Can Tho University will be responsible for the Mekong Delta, Ton Duc Thang University will be in charge of the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh, and the Pricing Committee will be responsible for the outskirts of Hanoi. Each of the institutions will receive instruction from the appropriate foreign researchers.

  4. Drafting a Research Report
    A report based on the above-mentioned research results, tentatively entitled "The Current Situation and Future Challenges of Agriculture in Vietnam", will be drafted jointly by the institutions.
