  1. Selecting trainees from Laos (April to May 2003)

A total of four trainees, two from the National Economic Research Institute in Laos (NERI) and two from other ministries and government offices such as the central bank, Ministry of Revenue, State Planning Committee and Statistics Bureau. The selection process will take into account the English abilities and professional experiences of the candidates, and great care will be taken to ensure that the process is impartial, and does not favor particular government offices, ministries, or gender.

  2. Conducting Training programs in Malaysia (June 2003)

Training programs will be held in Malaysia inviting the trainees selected by the aforementioned process "1".

    • Training program focusing on lectures and courses
Advanced courses based on the content of the workshops held in the first year of the program will be added to the curriculum. The program will basically consist of lecture courses, but will also include practical learning such as how to process macroeconomic indicators using computers.
    • Trainees will participate in the fourth quarter economic survey conducted every year by the Malaysia Institute of Economic Research (MIER), and learn the methods of collecting macroeconomic indicators.

  3. Simulated training for conducting an economic survey of Laos (January 2004)
Based on the above-mentioned training "2", the four trainees from Laos will conduct a 'practice' fourth-quarter survey of the Laotian economy. They will be taught by three instructors from MIER, and will learn methods of selecting macroeconomic indicators, drafting questionnaires, and selecting samples, among other things.
