Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (Cambodia):
The project will be carried out this year according to the following schedule.
- Seminar and fact-finding tour in Japan (December 2003):
Around December, when the cabinet has been formed and had time to settle down following general elections in July, seven parliamentarians from three parties will be invited to visit Japan for five days to meet and exchange views with Japanese parliamentarians, professionals and members of various organizations. The tentative topics of discussion include, "the function of the parliamentarian's office," "the role of the committee system within Japanese legislature," "the current situation regarding lawmaker-initiated legislature by Japanese Diet members," and "reflection of public opinion in the election system."
The visiting politicians from Cambodia will organize a seminar in Tokyo to share information about the current situation in their country.
- Follow-up workshop (February 2004):
By holding a workshop in Cambodia, where the group will give a report of their visit and discuss the main topics at hand, we aim to deepen the group's own understanding of what they saw and heard, and at the same time share the fruits of their trip with others in the country.
- Compiling a report on the workshop
A report summarizing the content of the workshop and the visit to Japan will be compiled.
(First year of a 3-year project)
