Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS/Indonesia)
This project aims to promote regional cooperation among ASEAN nations by providing a forum for future political leaders, such as young politicians and researchers, to share a common awareness of regional issues and expand their interpersonal networks.
During last year's workshop, both the CSIS and participants voiced the opinion that Japan's input was vital in strengthening the ASEAN network. Since 2003 has been designated as the year of ASEAN-Japan exchange, the workshop venue was moved to Tokyo and a new theme was selected. The details of the workshop are as follows:
Date: Four days in mid-December 2003 (Tentative)
Venue: Tokyo
Theme:
"ASEAN after 30 years: Its relationship with Japan and its future (tentative title)"
Participants:
A group of fifteen to twenty people comprising young politicians/researchers from the ASEAN nations ( Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar) and about ten young Japanese politicians or researchers from major think-tanks will be invited with the assistance of the Japan Center for International Exchange. Furthermore, as we are looking into the possibility of organizing a similar retreat workshop in Northeast Asia, we will invite one person from South Korea to participate as an observer.
